Successful first edition of
InnoCulture Conference

PA Culture, the CCI Contact Desk, the Baltic Sea Cultural Centre, the Goyki 3 Art Inkubator and ARS BALTICA joined forces to bring the InnoCulture Conference, a pilot for a Culture Forum within the EUSBSR, to life.

Over two inspiring days (Nov. 19–20) at the Baltic Sea Cultural Centre in Gdańsk, Poland, the lunch-to-lunch event buzzed with energy, networking, and thought-provoking input.

Culture X Integration Workshop at AF2024

At the EUSBSR Annual Forum 2024, the theme Culture X Integration took center stage in the workshop hosted by PA Culture and EUSBSR/PA Education. The exchange showcased how culture can build social bridges between migrants and host communities.

Projects from Sweden, Germany, and Poland, namely the Art of Belonging, Give Something Back To Berlin and the Fundacja Ocalenie - Ocalenie Foundation, shared creative ways to foster integration through art, exchange, and collaboration. Highlights included the "Cultural Rucksack for New Arrivals" and storytelling initiatives. Find the pictures of the event by Karl Melander here.

EUSBSR Annual Forum 2024 in Visby, Sweden

From October 19th to 31st, established as well as new stakeholders were welcomed in Visby on the island of Gotland, Sweden for the EUSBSR Annual Forum 2024.

 

Over 650 individuals representing numerous insitutions, organisations and projects across the Baltic Sea Region, Ukraine and beyond gathered in this stunning location. The event centred around the topics of sustainability, resilience and security.

We thank everyone contributing to this event full of lively exchanges! Special thanks to our partner ARS BALTICA for facilitating our event participation with us.

Engagement Day introducing the EUSBSR

Policy Area Culture participated in the Engagement Day, a side event to the EUSBSR Annual Forum 2024 introducing the strategy to new potential stakeholders.

200 participants joined in the event at the Wisby Strand Congress and Event hall. We especially thank those of them participating in the roundtable discussions (PAC's participation organised and assisted in person by ARS BALTICA), potentially connecting their current as well as future work to the Policy Area Culture. We enjoyed hearing about all the ideas and look forward to what they develop into in future! Learn more about the Engagement Day here.

Programme Overview InnoCulture Conference

Policy Area Culture has some updates on the 'InnoCulture Conference' in Gdańsk on November 19 and 20, 2024!

The keynote speakers and workshop leaders are looking forward to sharing knowledge and exchanging thoughts with you. There will be three presentations and four workshops exploring the different levels of intersections between innovation and Culture. The workshops are each held in two sessions, one on each conference day.

Kick-Off for the EUSBSR Polish Presidency

On 10 September, we launched Poland’s Presidency of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region with an inspiring event in Warsaw.

Opened by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Marek Prawda, the event centered on key themes of resilience and security in the Baltic Sea Region, alongside strengthening support for Ukraine.

Thank you to all experts who contributed to these vital discussions and helped shape the way forward. Stay tuned for updates as Poland leads this effort through 2024-2025!

Culture makes cities stronger - Event recap

On 24 April, PA Culture together with the Baltic Sea Cultural Centre hosted the ‘Culture makes cities stronger’ event in Warsaw, Poland and online.

The aim of the event was to introduce the BSR Cultural Pearl project and the overarching topic of 'Social Resilience through Culture'.

Policy Area Culture Meeting at the BSCC

On 7 and 8 March, the PA Culture Coordinators met in the Baltic Sea Cultural Centre (BSCC) in Gdańsk, Poland to discuss the work plan for the next months.

Day 1 was devoted mostly to  preparing the next Steering Group meeting and catch up with EUSBSR PA Tourism coordinator Magda Leszczyna-Rzucidło. Day 2 was all about plotting something special with the wonderful team at BSCC. 

And keep an eye out for two very interesting events!

Annual EUSBSR coordinator meeting

On 7 and 8 February, the annual 𝗘𝗨𝗦𝗕𝗦𝗥 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 took place in Hamburg.

It focused on the topic of climate (change) and ensuring the Strategy's relevance through cooperation, communication and evaluation.
It was a great opportunity to reconnect, exchange ideas, and make new plans to ensure the long-term impact of our work!

It was a great pleasure for us to attend the CCI Network Meeting in Tallinn, Estonia hosted by the CCI Contact Desk on 16 and 17 January.
The event was an excellent opportunity for networking, gaining new contacts, exchanging ideas, and discussing the latest trends in the Cultural and Creative Industries.
It certainly gave us a lot of inspiration for our work within the Baltic Sea Region!

Latvia will lead the work on overall strategic guidance, facilitation of decision-making and coordination of the National Coordinators Group with the support from the European Commission & the Baltic Sea Strategy Point. Common efforts to contribute to the reconstruction of Ukraine will be continued.

On 19-20 June, members of the Monitoring Committee selected 24 new core projects out of 88 applications that will receive funding to have their share in shaping the Baltic Sea Region. Two of them have a link to EUSBSR Policy Area Culture.

Creative Europe has published a new call with a budget of €60 million that aims to support projects to carry out a broad spectrum of activities and initiatives involving artists and stakeholders active in different cultural and creative sectors. PAC Roundtable on cultural relations - Review

The roundtable “Cultural relations in turbulent times” took place in Lappeenranta and online with around 25 participants from 10 different countries. The speakers Nicholas Cull and Solomiya Borshosh spoke about reputational security and the work of the Ukrainian Institute.

PA Culture Roundtable on cultural relations

The PA Culture Roundtable will focus on cultural relations in the Baltic Sea Region with the aim to explore the future of cultural cooperation. The event will take place at the 13th EUSBSR Annual Forum on 27 September as a hybrid format in Lappeenranta, Finland and online.

Creative Ports > CCI Contact Desk

One of the outcomes of the Flagship Project Creative Ports is the CCI Contact Desk, which was established at the Goethe-Institut Estonia in cooperation with ARS BALTICA. The Contact Desk will serve as a focal point for CCI internationalisation in the Baltic Sea region.

INTERREG BSR: First projects selected

The Monitoring Committee selected the first 17 projects out of 42 received applications in all three Programme priorities in the new INTERREG BALTIC SEA REGION - PROGRAM 2021-2027. The requested funds amount to EUR 6.4 million from the European Regional Development Fund.

In collaboration with the Swedish delegation to the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference, the Council of Baltic Sea States is co-organising the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Youth Forum. Applicants between 16–30 years old from the Baltic Sea Region can apply until 24 April for a participation.

Creative Waves International Webinar

Creatives Waves aims to support women to be healthier and more resilient as well as to create a space for creative women to co-operate, exchange, gain more strength and confidence. The project partners are organising an international webinar on 28 February at 2 PM with renowned expert speakers.

The Festival of the New European Bauhaus 

The first edition of the New European Bauhaus Festival will take place in Brussels from 9-12 June. Everybody who wants to present a project or initiative at the Fair, showcase cultural performances, or organise a side event in their own region is welcome to apply until 7 March.

Interreg Baltic Sea Region is opening a new Call on 8 February. Applications for Core Projects can be submitted until 26 April, for Small Projects until 30 March. Interested parties can request an individual online consultation

Creative Europe Annual Work Programme 2022

The European Commission has adopted the 2022 work programme of Creative Europe, that will be followed by the launch of the relevant calls for proposals. The programme aims to develop and promote European cultural and linguistic diversity and heritage.

The European Commission launched an interactive guide mapping all funding opportunities available at European Union level for the cultural and creative sectors: CulturEU. The guide aims to help identify the most suitable sources of EU support including a total of 75 funding opportunities.

CULTURE4CLIMATE @ 12th Annual Forum

ARS BALTICA is organising the session “𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘀” on 28 September. This year's EUSBSR Annual Forum takes place on 27 September - 1 October fully virtual with the topic GREEN RECOVERY. The Forum aims at fostering green transition in the Baltic Sea Region through a close partnership and more active involvement of the stakeholders, youth and local communities.

Baltic Stories - Leading the Sea Change

The new online magazine "Baltic Stories" presents multiple project examples on climate protection such as CASCADE and gives faces to the people from all around the Baltic Sea who create solutions to combat, adapt and mitigate climate change. The magazine is produced by Let's Communicate!

Swedish Institute Seed Funding

The Swedish Institute provides funding for joint projects in which Swedish organisations meet transnational challenges together with organisations from the Baltic Sea region countries including Russia and the countries of the Eastern Partnership. The call closes on 11 February 2021.

A LIBRARY FOR THE BALTIC SEA

The virtual Baltic Sea library is a continuously growing anthology of representative literary texts broadly connected with the Baltic Sea that seeks to provide multiple insights into the BSR. The authors of the texts either come from the region or have written texts that deal with aspects of life on the Baltic Sea.

CBSS Project Support Facility
